A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, with its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is featureless, and the whole is typically presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. For more historic info on Silhouettes visit Wikipedia.com
Today we are making silhouettes. Our version involves animals, party hats and glitter using Hygloss Products. Let’s get started!
Supplies:
- Silhouette Paper, 8.5 by 11, Hygloss Products
- Glitter, Crystal Color, Hygloss Products
- Paper Party Hat (Use as Template)
- White Craft Paint
- Scissors
- Craft Glue
- Pencil, Bakery Twine
Step One
Open a paper party hat and lay onto a piece of silhouette paper, then trace with a pencil.
Step Two
Cut out the traced party hat from the silhouette paper. Roll into a party hat and glue ends together. We used thick paper clips to hold the glued ends together until dry.
Step Three
Trace a fun animal pattern onto the party hat, then color in with white paint. We used a white craft paint pen.
Step Four
Cut two 12 inch strips from bakery twine. Glue inside two opposite ends of the party hat, let dry.
Step Five
Cover the painted animal silhouette with craft glue and crystal glitter, let dry.
These party hats are fun and easy to make. So many color possibilities. Try photographing your child sideways then print the picture, cut out and trace onto the party hat or a piece of paper for a personalized silhouette.
Try using shapes like hearts, circles, and stars instead. This is a perfect project to help with motor skills and creative drawing.
We would love to see what you make.
